Cubs have a visit from a REAL Super Hero!

Our past meeting was our first 'Safety Night' of the year. The Cubs and their Leaders discussed First Aid, Fire Safety, and 'Improvised Rescue Techniques'.

In preparation for an emergency situation at the Church, the Cubs explored our Den and mapped out all the possible exit routes. They chose a safe meeting place outside and reviewed Fire Safety.

The Cubs also fashioned splints, braces, and even a stretcher capable of transporting an injured Cub.

The highlight of the evening was when each Six had a chance to meet Advanced Care Paramedic Curtis Farrell.

With each Six, Curtis demonstrated life-saving techniques and functions of the examination equipment he brought. He also inspected and described the purpose of all the items in our Pack's First Aid Kit.

The Cubs were presented with their own personal First Aid Kit, and together with Curtis' guidance each Cub offered suggestions as to what items could be added to make each kit more useful in emergency situations.

Cubs will be expected to care for their First Aid Kit, and we will continue to revisit the Safety Night theme throughout the year.

Thank you Curtis, from all the 32nd Ottawa Cub Scouts!

Curtis Farrell - Advanced Care Paramedic, County of Renfrew Paramedic Service
