Day 1 Saturday
We left Connaught school at around 8:45 am in heavy rain. We stopped for 20 minutes under place
de portage waiting for the rain to stop pouring. We stopped at the shell in gran remous for gas.
We made it to Le Domaine at 12:30, and were on the water by 1:15. Winds were 30km/h with
gusts of 45km/h and 6” inch white caps. Progress slow going into the wind but we finally made
our first portage at 3:30pm after taking breaks behind little islands out of the wind. Our first
portage of 280 m and took us 53 minutes. The next portage was 320m and we were able to
complete in 45 mins. It also started to rain. We finally made it to our campsite 1105 at 6:15 pm.
We setup our 6 tents and 5 hammocks and then started a fire and made hotdogs and
hamburgers for supper. We finished eating by 8:30, and fire was out by 10:15.
Day 2 Sunday
After a hearty breakfast of oatmeal and hash we got on the water by 10:30. It was beautiful
sunny day. Went through two beaver dams and stopped for lunch at site 11-33 which had
nice sandy beach where went for a dip to cool off. We finished the days 10km paddle by
2:00pm. Our site 11-55 had a great beach . Everyone entertained themselves before super
at 7 of Indian food. We hung out around the fire till dark which was around 10:00.
Day 3 Monday
We had a little rain at 4:45 am so we packed our tents with wet flys
After breakfast we hit the water by 9:30 to another beautiful sunny calm day.
We reached our first portage around some rapids at 10:45 it took 40 mins to get through.
Our next portage was only a few minutes later and we made through in 35 mins. We are
definitely getting more efficient and working well as a team. We stopped for lunch at group
site 11-105 at around 1:15. We had a nice tail wind. Gabe and Jacob made sails in the front
of their canoes which actually worked.
We made to our campsite 11-118 by 2:30. It was an island and was quite windy, After
setting up our tents and hammocks we set up 3 tarps as rain was in the forecast. We
watched the rain moving down the large lake, it was exciting to see how the much the wind
picked up a turned the calm lake into waves with whitecaps and a little rain. The whole
weather event from start to finish was less than an hour. We could see on weather radar
we were lucky to just catch the edge of this fast moving heavy wind and rain event. We
had supper around 7 everyone used their meal in a package. We had our largest campfire
of the trip before turning in around 10.
Day 4 Tuesday
We got up around 6:30, breakfast was a conglomeration of all the food we had left
including oatmeal, naan bread, koblassa and cheese which we warmed on the fire. 3
canoes made sails and we were packed up and on the water by 9:20. We didn’t have far to
